Learn to put the experience of process arts into practice

~ Would like to deepen your experience of process painting?

~ Are you a professional working in any type of process-oriented learning environment?

~ Are you a group leader, therapist or teacher?

~ Are you interested in teaching process painting?

The Practice of Process Arts can help you along your path. This course teaches the philosophy and methods of process-oriented education developed by The Painting Experience over the last 40 years. Presented by founder Stewart Cubley and his staff, the course contains three modules and several supplemental programs to give you the materials, tools and community to incorporate process arts into your life and your work.

This course brings process painting into a whole new dimension. It’s exciting, demanding -- and also humbling.

If you try to rely on concepts or techniques that have worked for you before, it’s going to fall flat --

because this is not a subject to be learned; it’s a way of being.

~ Stewart Cubley

Making It Personal

You may complete Modules One and Two entirely online, without any group interaction. If your desire is to deepen your experience of process painting, the following practices will bring a personal element into your course experience through conversation and community. If you wish to develop your proficiency as a facilitator, these practices will be essential to broaden your understanding of how others meet the challenges of process painting and what it means to be an effective guide.

   Process Circles

A Process Circle is a small group that explores the content of each module with the support of Painting Experience facilitators. You’ll make personal connections with other course members as you investigate the course material in light of your own experience as a facilitator or painter. While deepening your understanding of process art, your Circle will also help you to complete the module you’re working on. Each Process Circle meets online weekly for 8 weeks and addresses the course material as it’s presented. The facilitator will record each session so you can review it—or in case you must miss a session and want to catch up. As a course member, you can join a new Process Circle at any time and you'll be notified as soon as the next one is scheduled.

The cost for a Process Circle is $250.

    Online Painting

As a course member, you’re encouraged to participate in facilitated sessions in our Online Painting Program. Online painting is a valuable addition to your online course experience as it gives you the opportunity to be facilitated by Stewart or another Painting Experience facilitator as well as witness the process of facilitation in the community of other process painters. At the end of each online painting session we invite all course members to participate in a facilitation discussion to explore topics that arise during that session.

When you register for Module One, your tuition includes one package of three online painting sessions. Additional packages of six sessions cost $330. Some scholarships are available.

      One-to-One Mentoring

In One-to-One Mentoring, you’ll receive personal supervision and constructive feedback from Stewart or a senior facilitator. During a mentoring session you'll be exploring personal questions related to your training, as well as viewing and discussing your own or your student’s paintings. Your facilitator records your mentoring sessions and emails them to you after each meeting.

When you register for any Module, your tuition includes a one-half hour mentoring session with Stewart or a senior facilitator. After that, the cost for One-to-One Mentoring is $210 and includes 3 hours of personalized supervision (a 50% discount).

Onsite Facilitator Training: The Hero's Journey

The Painting Experience hosts onsite facilitator trainings at least once each year. These trainings provide an in-person opportunity for course members to build community and explore aspects of the painting process in a rich format of educational exercises, faculty presentations and supervised facilitation practice.

Past participants have found these onsite gatherings to be both personally inspiring and professionally motivating. You’ll share and hear stories of the myriad situations that arise on the path of learning to facilitate process painting, and you’ll feel emboldened to take risks in new areas of your life. Onsite facilitator trainings will be will be postponed until it's once again safe to travel and participate in group events.
