Annie Danberg is a painter, graphic designer and facilitator of the Painting Experience process residing in San Rafael.

As a child, art making was Annie’s her solace, a refuge from the physical pain of numerous leg surgeries and from the emotional pain of being short statured and looking differently than her peers.
During young adulthood her desire to paint froze in the face of her self-imposed perfectionism, and she went into the field of graphic design. Although she painted images from her dreams and scenes inspired by poetry, something was missing. "It was as if I was walking on a frozen river, sensing a wild aliveness beneath the cold surface of my experience. I longed to be swept up and absorbed by this force yet could not break through the ice and surrender to it."

Annie returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1995 and took The Painting Experience with Stewart Cubley at the insistence of a friend. She describes the feeling of process painting like being carried along by a river – taking her places rather than her directing it. "This way of painting was exhilarating. The less I controlled and the deeper I listened the more it would reveal itself to me. I didn't feel separate from my experience or from my life – I felt wild and alive."

Annie has studied intensively with Stewart Cubley, and has been working with him for much of that time leading workshops and intensives. It is Annie's experience that painting for process carries ones self into astonishingly wild territory where the heart can be found and where life can be informed by the soul.
